Biography: I decided to qualify as a Blue Badge Guide because I wanted a career and a change. It was the best thing I ever did. Guiding suited my personality perfectly. I had worked in various secretarial jobs, had brought up a family, and had done the odd stint in restaurants and a flowershop. I am friendly, outgoing and gregarious, and I enjoy a challenge. Just before qualifying I ran the London Marathon, and later took part in a Womens Eight Rowing Race on the Thames. I try to keep to a certain level of fitness; it is essential when managing groups of tourists.
As a guide my professional highlight was a tour of Oxford and its colleges in 2002 for the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, his wife and young daughter. As a Bavarian I also enjoyed taking members of the Bavarian Parliament on a tour of London.
I have guided a variety of groups; children and students, incentive groups for medicine and industry, architects and bankers, groups with disabilities, special interest groups and of course senior citizens.
Guiding never gets boring, as no two days are the same!

Special interests: My interests are wide ranging, but I am especially interested in British history. Being German, it was fascinating to research the links; historical, cultural and royal; between Britain and Germany. I have also studied the connection between the British royal houses and the House of Hanover, and find that this can often become a focus during a tour, and spark a group's interest in general.
As music and opera have always played a part in my life, I have been lucky to take groups to music and opera festivals such as Glyndebourne, Hampton Court and the Prom concerts in the Albert Hall.
I have deepened and expanded my knowledge of architecture, art, cathedrals and churches, and keep up to date with world affairs, and I find that my guiding has benefited as a result.
Walking tours: I will undertake walking tours in London, including Hampstead, Belgravia, Royal St. James, Mayfair, the City, Greenwich; all these can be tailored to specific topics such as architecture, history, royalty.
I also take groups on JACK THE RIPPER walks through London's East End.
Gabriele will do cycling tours.
Extended tours: Touring expands your horizon!
I tour predominantly in Southern England, from Dover in Kent to Lands End in Cornwall. Most tours are of a general nature, taking in culture, architecture, landscape, but some have a literary theme such as Dickens, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie and, for German groups especially, Rosamunde Pilcher.
There are also special garden tours, and I have helped plan 8-day tours to Cornwall visiting a total of 12 wonderful gardens.
Other tours take me to Scotland, starting in London and taking in Cambridge, York and Durham en route.
I am happy to guide in most areas of Britain.
